“Moving” Stories

My company downsized in 2009 and I lost a longtime job because of budget cuts. It was cool they paid me a settlement for my severance package. For years I’d been their monkey and I definitely understood the need to trim the fat but I didn’t think I’d get axed. I contested but it ran long so I had to move to a place I could afford. The movers weren’t a problem, I had a cousin in the business, but I felt getting moving insurance against his goons taking some stuff was a wise move so I did it. Good thing too!

The old office dealt with claim jumpers and bail bonds so I was used to the element. I knew my stuff was a prime target for unsavory individuals since it is the newly released ones that end up finding placement in a moving agency, at least that’s what I saw with my cousin’s company. These guys were fresh out of options since even in this day and age no one wants to hire an ex-con. And it was these types of people who would be handling my furniture, my electronics, boxing up my small items and knick-knacks so of course I was going to get moving insurance.

To their credit they arrived on time to do the packing. Within thirty minutes my couch was covered in bubble wrap and my bed frame disassembled. The crew chief was explaining to me how he’d been doing the job for ten years even before working for my cousin when I noticed three men went into my room to carry out my beddings yet only two came out with stuff. One of their crew was still inside. I said I needed to use the toilet one last time and went into the room to find this tall, lanky tattooed guy hovering over a box holding my personal effects. He claimed he dropped his keys into the box and was about to fish them out when walked in on him.… Continue reading

Different types of ‘moving insurance’

Moving insurance is essential in office relocation and house relocation. Let us discuss two different types of ‘moving insurances.’ One is insurance that your house insurance provider offers. Second one is the insurance that your movers offer. We need to choose any of these two options. Main thing to keep in mind is to read the terms and conditions of moving insurance policy paper. We need to verify the price and fee they charge for insuring our belongings.

There are different types of Moving insurances. Insurance companies offer wide variety of plans for relocation.

Different types of relocation insurance

  1. Inclusive insurance

There is no separate fee for inclusive insurance. ‘Inclusive insurance’ includes all charges. We need not pay any extra charge. A draw back for this plan is its limited coverage. Service providers may give low value protection for our valuables. The total claim amount for loss or damage of valuables will be low for this type of insurance.

How Moving Insurance Works

Someday you may have a need to move your life from here to there, perhaps that day has come for you, and when it does it would be best to remember that no matter who does the moving, accidents can happen. Unforeseen events can damage your valuable items, boxes can shift and falls enroot to your new place, and you have no one to replace the loss unless you have moving insurance. This is how you can control you moving companies effectively by protecting what needs adequate coverage before the move.

Not all insurance policies are the same and you do have some options when it comes to setting your policy. Most moving companies have a type of insurance built into the contract to move or the bill of lading, and thought your items are costed at a minimal valuation it is better than nothing. If you want something more substantial, or have inkling that you aren’t sufficiently covered, you should explore a third party moving insurance coverage. One; so that the movers have a second opinion to measure up against. Two; your valuable will be insured for more so if something does happen you can claim for more than just ten cents for your glassware. Three; perhaps your movers coverage has some gaps and does not cover storage after delivery or certain packing methods you might prefer or they simply might not be as comprehensive as you want it to be. It is pretty important to be aware of your contract and policy’s terms before signing on the dotted line.
