“Moving” Stories case 1103055 : Wilma N. from San Bernardino

Last year was a turning point for me. I had recently graduated from college and in this economy it took me three months to get a job, unfortunately it was in another state so I would have to pick up and move. My dad helped me pick out a moving insurance to protect my trip. I never filled up a credit card application though there were many people pushing them into my hands in school (my folks always said not to because it would only increase my spending) so I didn’t have the credit history the insurance was looking for. I got one the folks could afford and packed my meager belongings into my beat up Japanese sedan and headed west.

The company I worked for hired me as a data analyst and it took me two days to get acclimated though I had not unloaded everything off my car yet. People were friendly and I got a nice apartment for cheap not too far away. It was near the end of my first week when I was heading to my car and noticed someone had busted my rear driver’s side window and made off with a few boxes I had in the back. After the shock wore off and a few co-workers had hugged me to death I set out to my place and finally finished unloading what was in my car.

The next morning I took the time to review my moving insurance and found I was covered for the theft but not the damage to my car. I began the process with a call to my folks. They contacted the service who sent a nice man to inspect the incident. Of course I had cleaned up a bit by the time he arrived but he was accommodating and gave a favorable report.… Continue reading

Relocation: Say The Goodbyes

Relocation: Say The Goodbyes

When one has to move from one city to the next, one has a million thoughts racing through their head. They range from things like finding a new place, job, friends, and arrangements for kids and their pets. One also wonders if one will be able to fit into the new set up without any hiccups. This period is like riding the emotional rollercoaster. One moment there is joy considering the fact that any move is for the better. New places, better opportunities and all things new. Right on the heels of this euphoria rides the fear of the unknown. The many questions with “what if’s”. What if the move does not work out like one thought it would or what if all things went wrong?

It is in these moments that God can help – through the loving hands extended by friends. Friends serve to help bolster one’s spirits when the need arises. While one is neck deep in the preparations for relocation, one must not forget to inform friends. The extended friends’ circle has to be notified as well and the new address for communication has to be intimated. This is a task which one must do with care. Humanity is made up of relationships and hence it is important that one keep his friends updated.… Continue reading

“Moving” Stories case 1103044 : Pete L. from Seattle

There’s no denying that moving to Seattle was the best thing that ever happened to me. I moved here from Washington three years ago and I don’t miss my old place. Maybe it’s because I managed to scuttle all the trappings and creature comforts of my old bachelor’s pad to my Emerald City home. I first wondered why it was called that, apparently it is because of the lush evergreens in the area. These seemed to cheer me on as I arrived one rainy November years ago.

I left a Washington newspaper office to write a column on local celebrities in Seattle. The pay was better and I finally got my own car and a bigger place. With that in mind I looked for a moving service that would accommodate the transfer as quickly and as cheaply as I could get it. I made a list of seven and cut out the lowest two as they seemed too good to be true. Someone told me about Rogue movers in the area so I was wary. I checked out the service I selected but didn’t get a separate moving insurance at first. It wasn’t a top priority because the movers said I was covered for loss and damages under my contract with them. Everything was set and on rails until I spent an afternoon at a local bookstore and saw an old friend who told me something interesting over coffees.… Continue reading

Relocating to the US for Business

Relocating to the US for Business

Relocating to America to do business is allowed under the general application of the US laws, and it may even prove to the best decision. According to the World Bank “Ease of Doing Business 2010 Report” world rankings, the United States of America ranks number five out of 183 countries. This index averages the country’s percentile rankings on nine topics, made up of a variety of indicators, giving equal weight to each nine topics. The nine topics included in the index in Doing Business 2010 were: starting a business, dealing with construction permits, registering property, getting credit, protecting investors, paying taxes, trading across borders, enforcing contracts and closing a business. A high ranking on the ease of doing business index means the regulatory environment is more conducive to the starting and operation of a local firm. So this report is a confidence booster for persons intending to relocate to the US for business purposes.

Commercial Moves

Commercial Moves

The world is shrinking and all people spread from the North Pole to the south, east to west are being linked with criss-crossing ties, giving credibility to the word ‘Global Village’. Being global villagers means that one has access to services almost at any point in the world. This is facilitated by the internet and businesses are set up all across the globe. The term ‘Parent Company’ is not an unfamiliar word to our ears these days and this word means that there are associates elsewhere too. These associates may be present on any location on the world map. This entails moving. The reasons for a commercial move may be plenty. From a simple reason that it is cheaper to work from one building to the fact that raw material and manual labour are available more in another location, whatever it may be, one need help in the whole process of moving from one location to another. These commercial moves need not be on a global scale, but can simply be from one building to the next. Wherever the destination may be, assistance is required.… Continue reading
